Can someone please explain how to set up a server for this game?
March 22, 2014 at 7:40 pm #2709DecethKeymasterHey k-rist, here’s a bunch of info on how to setup a server.
January 23, 2018 at 4:37 pm #2991WeeboParticipantWhen you download Battle City, the game also comes with the server. Go to the /server/ folder and open bcserver.exe.
You are now running a Battle City server!
… the tricky part is then making sure other players connect to your server. To do this, their version of the game needs to connect to your servers IP address. If you get that far, post here for more help!

Last time I tried it, it’s complaining about some file (can’t remember off the top of my head), but it’s due to the code being compiled for debugging or something along those lines.
February 16, 2018 at 11:27 pm #3005WeeboParticipantThe current release is the same version everybody used to play compiled back in December 2012! What has changed since then is everyone is using a newer computer and newer operating system (Windows 10) which may create some compatibility issues these days.
That said, Battle City does still work on Windows 10! Jolesman has a server up with a bunch of people playing several months back. If you run into trouble next time a server is up, hopefully someone has already had the same problem and can help you out.
It is possible to compile a 2018 version… the problem is there’s not too many people to help test it out/fix bugs!
February 25, 2018 at 2:04 pm #3006nyconMemberHello Everyone,
I’m trying to get the server to run, I’ve setup an Ubuntu server at a data center with WINE but every time I try and run the server I get an error about
msvcp110d.dll
Same if I try to run local on my windows 10 box. An ideas?
March 3, 2018 at 4:36 pm #3011WeeboParticipantSee the following possible solutions, and let us know what worked:
See the post about “Visual Studio REDIST packages never deploy the DEBUG versions of the CRT files”, this may be the issue depending on how the most recent version was compiled.
March 6, 2018 at 11:09 pm #3017rileywParticipantShould we look at packaging the server and client separately? May include an installer for ease of use?
July 19, 2018 at 5:25 pm #3022nyconMemberI got the server to run. . . the issue was it was compiled in developer mode. I’ve recompiled it and now have it running on my data center server.
I also recompiled the client and it’s setup to connect to my server

July 8, 2021 at 10:39 pm #3059dajeffParticipantWhere did you get the source for the server and client from? I keep getting these downloads where the server folder is taken out of it.
