The First Gauntlet

The first ever Battle City Gauntlet event took place last night and it was very fun! I logged on around 9pm EST and finished it right on time for 10pm! 😉

I’d like to thank the entire Battle City community for making this event a pleasure to host. There were over 30 players online, yet the Gauntlet was not damaged, sabotaged or attacked all night! In fact, with the exception of ReBeL, nobody tried causing any mischief! Thanks!

The Gauntlet was definitely not easy. Only those with the best tank driving skills were able to reach the end. There were no winners until around 11:30 when Chris finally made it to the end! Chris actually had died on the last turret about 30 minutes earlier, but this time made no mistake!

By the end of the night, CMB, TylerDurden, Knights, mrmcnutz, Iggy and BoC all made it to the end of the Gauntlet! Congrats! There were many spectators gathered at the finish line cheering those who survived that far!

All the winners received 1000pts, though some decided to sponsor a newbie or to share with someone who helped them.

mrmcnutz – Gave 200pts to SomeAsshole
TylerDurden – Gave 100pts to Wujiamin

Also, Yoyo won 2pts for jumping over the walls right in front of the finish line!

On another note, my account earned 920 points, which means the Gauntlet claimed 460 lives in a single night. With 7 winners, that means 1.5% of the attempts made at reaching the end of the Gauntlet were successful. Definitely a challenging Gauntlet.

Zeike Spotlight July 2005

No doubt about it – Zeike is the top newbie for July! She loves cats, posts on the forums, and finished tied for second place in the latest City Design Competiton. It’s everything you could want from a newbie and more!

It’s true – Zeike has never orbed a city. But really, how many newbies have? And forget about orbing, Zeike has become a feared defender and a popular mayor. In fact, while roaming the battlefield, I saw her catch Iggy in a DFG! 😉

Zeike also helped save Battle City from the Dark Lord. That’s right, at the start of July the Dark Lord attacked Battle City – it was the biggest battle in history! Zeike managed to join the Dark Lord’s city with Wujiamin and they then sabotaged it from the inside! When the Dark Lord wasn’t looking, they cleared a path of turrets which allowed Ender to enter the fortress and take out the turret factory.

It was quite a sight to see. One second 30 players are desperately fighting for their lives against an armada of turrets. The Dark Lord was expanding his territory quick, engulfing the entire battlefield. Next second, hundreds of turrets disappear and holes open up everywhere allowing players to start bombing the Dark Lords fortress. Within several minutes, despite efforts to rebuild, the fortress was orbed. The Dark Lord was gone.

Blazed Spotlight May 2005

Blazed is the funniest newbie I have ever seen. Hot Dog was getting mad at him for placing turrets and stuff. We told him so many times not to. He was pretty confused. He kept taking everything and he didn’t even know what it was.

Hot dog kept telling Blazed, “Don’t set D”. But I think he didn’t know what where defense items. He was also asking Hot Dog if he could build too. Lol! He also picked up like three lasers before Hot Dog figured out he took them all. Hot Dog was like, “How many lasers do you have?” Blazed had no idea, so finally I told him to press “d” and he dropped all the lasers.

Blazed is funny cuz he is so confused but he tries. Keep up the good work Blazed! We love newbies! 😉

Wujiamin Spotlight March 2005

Picture this – an epic return, a glorious new beginning, a wave of excitement… it’s here, it’s back, it’s Battle City. And guess what – it’s full of newbies! Welcome to the Newbie Spotlight – the place where newbies are honored for their incompetence, incoherence, and inability to shoot.

Wujiamin is the first newbie to be honored with the spotlight. Of all the newbies out there, nobody is more deserving of newbie recognition. She can barely drive, let alone shoot. But she’s from Hawaii, does the hula, and really knows how to hang-out!

She talks about nipples – but it’s not what you think. Wuji used to play another game called ARC. That’s right, we’ve converted here. Forget about UFO’s and space battles, Battle City is where the real action is. High speed tank wars, tactical assault strategies, decisive defense placement. Wuji was a Private for 2 weeks. Then a Corporal for three. But forget that – she’s now been promoted to Sergeant Major with 556 points! Watch yourself.

While she might not be the best recruit to defend your city just yet, she does know how to protect herself from the drooling of Yoyo and the rest of her growing fan club. Because for what she lacks in skill, she more than makes up for in text – that’s right, this newbie is already an active member of the community in the midst of a spam war with one of the games finest veterans, Stubbs.

What does the future hold for Wujiamin? The next Duke – Lord perhaps? Definitely Lieutenant by May, maybe even Captain!

Best of all, I’ve convinced her that in Canada it’s common to have a pet penguin. Mine is named Gonk.

A word of advice – don’t hug turrets even if you think they look like pandas. They’re not. I promise they never will be, please stop.
