@Nightwish, this one has baffled me for a while since it varies for everyone. For example, it works fine for myself in either resolution…. I know a few people have reported this issue though…
Anybody have any thoughts on how to fix this?
Now that Battle City is up and working again for everyone, BC 4.0.0 is back on the menu.

Quick update on the updater: It’s gone! The Battle City Updater is no more… Plz send rescue!
When you download v3.5.7c, the updater will not be there. This will make life simpler for new players who won’t bother to try clicking bc.exe when the updater fails to launch the game.
As a side project, we need to build or find existing open source software to use as an updater going forward. Until then, players will need to keep re-downloading the game every time there is a new version.
From now on, if you need to re-download the game, you should get an error that says, “Outdated version, please re-download Battle City”.
This problem has now been fixed! Please download v3.5.7c to get online and try out the awesome new server!
Don’t forget, you can now type /load demo if you don’t have any saved designs!

@antster297, I tried installing Battle City on another computer and I received the following error:
“This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect”
I have not been able to test a fix yet, but I have done some research.
It looks like I have several versions of certain DLL files on my development machine and I distributed the wrong ones with the game.
[Potential Fix]
Get the missing DLL files by installing:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
NOTE: I don’t know if this works. I haven’t tested it yet.
In summary, we need to build a new updater. Or, just force folks to re-download the game every time there is a new version.
Also, ideally I could use such an updating device to update my mood, because this latest catastrophe has got my panties in a bunch. And I’m normally quite neat.
Workaround: If you download the latest version of Battle City, the game still works. As a temporary solution, open the game using bc.exe rather than BattleCity.exe. This will bypass the updater and launch the game directly.
@hotdiggydoggy, did you download the latest version? If so, try opening bc.exe instead of BattleCity.exe.
@rushing, I’ve updated the downloads page, so just download the latest version and you should be able to get online without problem!
Same goes for anybody else unable to connect to the server – plz re-download the game! It’s up and running better than ever.

The server is currently online, but since the updater isn’t working, you can’t get the latest version allowing you to connect to the new server. This is problematic. I need to upload my bc.exe, or update the download link so people can get the latest version.
Unless you logged on before the apocalypse, you can’t logon right now unless someone sends you their bc.exe.
Ideally I will make this available for download soon! Or figure out how to fix the updater…

You are correct! In order to post on the forums, you need to post your message in a group. This may be confusing. That’s why it’s the experimental beta site!
Good call on the “General Discussion” group. I’ve bowed to your demands and created it.
Creating a group is a piece of cake. Not literally, but almost! Click the groups tab all the way up-top, then click, “Create a group”. Anybody can create a group. I no longer decide a strict set of forum topics, the community is in control! Create and join the groups you want. The discussion can evolve freely.
And if it sucks, we can always go back to the old forums once I fix them 😉

Just when you think life will throw you a bone, it tosses you a pickle. What good is a pickle?!
You see, we’ve been experiencing technical difficulties. The latest item to break is the Battle City Updater. It’s looking for files in a location that no longer exists.
And I can’t fix it. I cannot update the updater. It refuses to compile. It’s unupdateable.
And if I can’t update the updater, I can’t update Battle City…
But at least I have a pickle.
