Janie’s got a gun.
DecethKeymasterHey @riseagainst,
I’ve been hosting a server from November 2007 to April 2011 on GoDaddy for 30$/month. I didn’t renew it this May because there have been 0 players online since January 2011. It just didn’t make sense to keep paying that bill!
That doesn’t mean the project is dead. Far from it. We just need to find a cheaper option for hosting a server. If there is ever enough interest to support a quality server like we had, I’ll definitely put one up again. In the mean-time, anybody can host a server from home with some tweaking of the source code. I haven’t had any free time to try setting up a Battle City Server from home, but anybody is welcome to do so.
If I ever do have some free time, I’ll work on making it easier for anybody to host a server without having to tweak the source code. (The client needs to be modified so that you can enter a server address instead of it always trying to connect to a hard-coded address)
DecethKeymasterDear folks of the Battle City kingdom,
It has been some time since the launch of the new http://battlecity.org. What are your thoughts? Have all your earthly desires been fulfilled by this website? Do you miss the previous forums, the old green site, or the ancient community portal from 2005?!
Can you find everything you are looking for on this site? Are you confused? Are you happy the General Discussion logo is a squirrel tipping over a cup of coffee? Would you rather a lemur?
I promise to greet all feedback with cryptic responses of confusion. Please join us in the last dance of Balkh from the “March of the Orbers” Soundtrack.

DecethKeymasterQ1 – Where can you get a Battle City Banner?
@rushing click “Battle City Screenshots” at the bottom of the screen within the toolbar.
This will load up a view of my flickr account which contains every Battle City screenshot I have had the honor to share disk space with.
Q2 – What kind of game is Battle City?
I’d say it falls into a few categories. Strategy, action, real-time, multiplayer, MMO. If you have to pick just one, it doesn’t really matter. Any is better than none π
DecethKeymaster@rushing – Welcome back! You’ll be pleased to know, the source code now compiles without the need for any mystical third party dependencies.
I haven’t submitted Battle City to any game sites for quite a while! If anybody is up for the task, that is definitely a great way to attract new players! Good suggestion.
DecethKeymaster@faix – Go to your Battle City folder and open up “imgTanks.bmp”. All the tanks that can be used in-game are in that file. If yours is not there, it’s possible that it was “buggy” or too similar to an existing tank. For a tank to work properly, it has to be made in a certain way so it appears smooth in-game and so no pink spots show up.
If you have a working tank design, definitely post it. The deal still stands, if your tank design is included with the game, your account also gets access to use that tank, no donation required π Making graphics is a donation to the whole community!
DecethKeymaster@faix – that sounds awesome, I look forward to checking them out π
If you download the latest version of Battle City, it comes with a “skins” folder. In there you will find:
– Battle City 3.1
– Battle City DX
– Cities at War
– Green Pastures
– Battle of Utrecht
– Holiday SkinHopefully that will give you some ideas to get started. If anyone does have any other skins, I’d be happy to include them with the game like the above ones so long as they are complete and working π

We could use a few new players, but otherwise, we have a good server and a few people have downloaded the source code. Hopefully that means some updates π
@foozgrind – Battle City has always sort of lurked in the shadows on the internet… Hopefully one of these days we’ll get a mention somewhere important that will bring us some traffic! Until then, Wikipedia won’t even let us post an article because there aren’t enough third party sources to prove the game really exists π

DecethKeymasterHey there Kil3R, I was wondering what happened to you! Welcome back π
I haven’t removed any moderator accounts. If you log into Battle City, any flame throwing tanks will still spit the fires of hell.
Battle City is open source. Anybody is welcome to take a look at the code or fork the project and make their own changes. Just click the Source Code link.
DecethKeymasterI just tested after rebooting the server and all items appear to once again take damage as expected!
DecethKeymasterChallenge accepted!
DecethKeymasterHmm, that’s new!
I just rebooted the server and will test again soon. Maybe the server just had a little too much tequila for New Years! Darn RAMs…
