Hi Guys!
It’s been forever. It’s r0dx here! I nearly played this game 5-10 hours a day when I was in middle school, and loved every minute of it. I remember staying over Bigdawg’s house in 7th grade, and playing this game until the sun came up. It was the best!
What will it take to get this get back online, and stay online? I’m willing to make a large donation, or monthly donations to keep this game running live.
I also work for one of the largest online advertising companies, and can potentially serve ads within the game (to generate revenue if needed), or even advertise the game to obtain new players? I have no problem spending my own funds to advertise the game as well, as I’d love to see this game grow very popular.
Hit me up at r0d2 on AIM ๐ or reply here.
Thanks,
r0dx

September 12, 2014 at 10:36 pm #2738WeeboParticipantHey, good to hear from you r0dx and Acheron ๐
I’d love to put up a dedicated Battle City server again. To keep something like that up and running costs about $500 per year. We had a server running 24/7 from 2005 to 2011, but towards the end the problem is that we ran out of players…!
… before you donate anything, it’s the player problem that needs a plan.
Since 2011, I’ve still occasionally hosted servers. Hey man, Battle City is open source, technically anybody can host a server ๐
For the last two years I’ve even hosted the Battle City “Winter Classic” server that I’ve turned on Dec. 21st. I usually turn it off after about a month when nobody has logged on for over a week. During this time, about 15 different people logged on and never more than 2 or 3 were on at the same time. Not enough for anybody to have any adrenaline rushing battles like the good old days.
Now, back in the day I would have done some advertising, organized events, tournaments, and been online 8 hours a day to get things going. I don’t have the time to do that anymore. But, that’s the kind of effort it takes to launch or re-launch a game.
We would need a dedicated person to run Battle City for any server to stand a chance of success.
Every now and then someone offers to do this, but they vanish after a couple of weeks and things fall apart just as they were starting to gain momentum.
And so therein lies the conundrum.
Turning on a server is easy, but having fun addicting battles requires a bunch of people to logon at the same time so how do we get to the point that there is always 10+ players online…

September 20, 2014 at 2:58 am #2740r0dxMemberWeebo, how do I contact you directly? I think we use to actually talk on AIM years ago?
Let me know, I have a ton of ideas for BattleCity, and I’m determined to get this game back up and running full time and stronger than ever.
Let’s link up ASAP!

November 16, 2014 at 3:35 am #2742KnightsMemberHi guys,Long time.
I would be interested to play BC as much as I could, was always fun to play BC in the old days and Im sure this would not change even now,so count me in.
All the best to you all.
Nice to see you guys exist in a BC background.December 5, 2014 at 11:17 am #2743k-ristMemberi was thinking i could host a server for some time.
January 2, 2015 at 4:11 pm #2744wirtMemberThis really sounds great guys I have been wanting Battlecity back also.
But when the last Battlecity was up something annoyed me when playing the game. When Battlecity came out by Codehammer the buildings were setup in a way that if the building had a full red ring of population it would take 2 bombs to take out one building. Bombs do not work properly in the current version wich makes the game unbalanced.
Now bombs work in such a way as if you put once bomb on a building that’s connected to other buildings it blows all the connected buildings with just one bomb this is wrong!!
In the condehammer BC one bomb would take half of the red population ring and it would take another bomb to destroy that building. If the building only had half population you could use one bomb and the destroy the building with one bazooka shot. I specifically remember how this worked. one bazooka shot would take 1 red dot of population after the bomb got it down to .05 population.
If bombs were fixed up properly it would add a huge help in the way the game is played and how the game is loved. But when one single bomb can destroy 4 buildings in one blow this to me doesn’t seem right.
Ive talked about this countless times and I know im right.
Love you guys
January 7, 2015 at 4:21 pm #2747wirtMemberCommon guys we can get this started again. And when we do I will be on a lot. To fix up BC properly we as a community need bombs to work in a more balanced way, this will make players happy especially mayors it will make building so much better and easier. We need to get this community up and running again we need a good plan and members to come together as a family. People like Equilisher, TkImo, and Hanzie are no use to us. We need to take action its been to long.
hoping to see someone post soon!!!!

August 2, 2015 at 9:44 pm #2765muffinmanParticipantHey all,
I’ve been giving this heavy consideration over the past few months, but I’m still thinking about recreating this classic game in Unity. By recreating, I’m not simply going to implement what this game does and call it a day…but rather borrow the core gameplay (orbing, time-bombs or time-bomb like devices employed to destroy enemy structures, strategic base building in a persistent world with rocks/lava to build around, factories, etc) and then expand upon it tremendously with my own vision.
As work slows down for me this fall, I’ll likely find the time to create a project plan and goals. I’ve been a developer for eleven years now and I think I can accomplish this. Anyone who has similar talents, please shoot me an email at gdalemoore@gmail.com.
