How long will the server stay up?
I tried to give it a tad bit of life when I invited some friends onto it. I got 2 in, and we had a few laughs in the teamspeak server that our other friend owns. They seemed to enjoy it, hopefully they play a bit more.
Will our ranks be restored by any chance?
Quite self-explanatory.
Administrator / Moderator powers – Restored or forgotten?
Self explanatory.
Who wants to set up a game night?
November 28, 2011 at 2:11 pm #2089DecethKeymasterPoints, ranks & administrator accounts are currently all server specific. These things are saved in the database, and every server has its own database. For example, you were an administrator on my server, so whenever I host my server you will have access to that account, but when you login elsewhere, you will not.
It would be nice to have a central hub/database, so that players could use one account for any server, but that’s a whole other project ๐

November 30, 2011 at 1:36 pm #2095DecethKeymasterFor privacy reasons, it’s not a good idea to share databases without first making some changes.
Code wise, some improvements would need to be made to add better encryption so it’s not possible to determine user passwords with a copy of the database.
Also, since the database contains personal information, such as names and email addresses, there are likely some complicated legal rules… People trust and agree to share their information with the server host with the reasonable expectation it will not be distributed. It’s a grey area when we’re talking about sharing it for another Battle City Server, but it would still be best to first update the user agreement and send out a notification of the upcoming change before going ahead and doing it.
Another option would be to completely sanitize the database before sharing it. That is, remove all personal information such as names, email addresses, etc…and keep only accounts and statistics. This would still require the code changes mentioned above to protect passwords, but would simplify sharing Battle City specific info (points, stats, admins, and other items that do not uniquely identify individuals)
December 2, 2011 at 2:30 am #2096faixParticipantHm, fair enough. Thanks for enlightening me on that.
January 17, 2012 at 5:13 am #2101remoteParticipantIf you’re talking about my server, it will stay up indefinitely. I have another game that supports my dedicated hosting, so it’s not going anywhere
I have the old ranks file but it would be your passwords from like, 2007 or whenever it was. If you’re talking about Weebo’s ranks, then he would have to send them to me.
Whether we start fresh, use the 2007 ranks and accounts, or possibly import accounts is entirely up to you guys. I’ll do whatever anyone who wants to play it thinks is best.
If you weren’t talking about my server I apologize, the timing of the post is 2 weeks after I posted mine and there has been some activity on there so I assumed it was about the CodeMallet server.
January 23, 2012 at 1:37 am #2102AnonymousInactiveIm back. Mark_5down here, or sonicpulse. Whatever ya knew me by. Lets get this game rolling. I miss it. A lot.
February 14, 2012 at 2:17 am #2105jizohnParticipantrestore the database!!! ๐ Would be nice to see King Jizohn again ๐
February 14, 2012 at 6:13 pm #2106WeeboParticipantAs you command, Your Grace. Allow me leave to verify the status of the server monkeys, they hold the key to the realm.
March 2, 2012 at 9:44 pm #2117muffinmanParticipantJust create a web service API that you can call out to that allows each instance of the game to sync up. That way it can do the pulls and pushes all at one place. =)
PS: Sup guys?
March 13, 2012 at 11:28 am #2118faixParticipantI think my mind imploded due to the amount of amazingness I’ve just witnessed.
Hit me up on Skype guys. Just message me for my Skype name ;D
But here’s an interesting suggestion – Merge the 2007 database with the 2009/2010/2011 database. That way, I’d have my 9 year old account, AND my 12/13 year old account. *fistpump*

May 13, 2012 at 4:13 am #2125remoteParticipantIt’s possible. Would need the database files from the private hosts and I could do it.
May 13, 2012 at 9:47 am #2127RushingParticipantBut surely they would both conflict? It would still be nice to be Grand DOOK again though, or something along those lines, it was so many years ago…
If only we could rumble up some interest again.
May 15, 2012 at 1:58 pm #2128faixParticipantI’d love to see Remote’s or Weebo’s database up on the server.
I’d prefer Weebo’s, mainly because of the account I have on there. I don’t like either names, but I prefer the second one. Lived up a pretty fucking retarded life as the first one :S
