When I try to play some bc, I open up the exe. file but the login information doesn’t come up. Server down?
May 24, 2011 at 12:27 pm #2046DecethKeymasterHey @riseagainst,
I’ve been hosting a server from November 2007 to April 2011 on GoDaddy for 30$/month. I didn’t renew it this May because there have been 0 players online since January 2011. It just didn’t make sense to keep paying that bill!
That doesn’t mean the project is dead. Far from it. We just need to find a cheaper option for hosting a server. If there is ever enough interest to support a quality server like we had, I’ll definitely put one up again. In the mean-time, anybody can host a server from home with some tweaking of the source code. I haven’t had any free time to try setting up a Battle City Server from home, but anybody is welcome to do so.
If I ever do have some free time, I’ll work on making it easier for anybody to host a server without having to tweak the source code. (The client needs to be modified so that you can enter a server address instead of it always trying to connect to a hard-coded address)
May 29, 2011 at 6:53 pm #2047InsaneInMyBrainParticipantAhh finally, I finally found my registration E-mail, it was in my spam box. But anyway, I’ll be active on this forum now, and check it daily, and if it ever gets up again, i’ll be there online.
I really miss battlecity, and logged in on it monthly, but there was never anyone online, and a few weeks ago I couldn’t log in, so I first tried to re-install, and then I saw this post. To bad.

June 5, 2011 at 12:32 pm #2048cseowParticipanthoping to get back at this game!!
it needs more players!!!!June 18, 2011 at 6:15 am #2049faixParticipantBack from my long vacation with a laptop with the occasional free wi-fi I have returned to this :S
We need to form some kind of game night or something where, it goes without saying, we play all night long with a mixture of teams and perhaps a few events.
I hope we can recover sooner rather than later.
September 13, 2011 at 12:49 pm #2069WeeboParticipantA game night is an awesome idea. It might be too expensive to rent a server like we used to do, but it’s definitely easy for someone to put up a temporary server for the night.
For this to work we need enough players for it to be fun ( @riseagainst, @insaneinmybrain, @cseow, @faix, @rushing, @nightwish, @lakmobes, @incyte, @antster297, @hotdiggydoggy, @platypus, @deceth) and we need good communication to make sure everyone gets the server IP address or latest version of the game needed to login.
September 14, 2011 at 12:53 pm #2071faixParticipantFacebook could work, or even MSN. I’d definitely help out.
October 23, 2011 at 1:40 pm #2081sandbagParticipantIs there a linux server, or is it only Windows?
October 24, 2011 at 7:29 am #2082faixParticipantGood question. I don’t think Deceth has designed a Battlecity suitable for Linux or a Mac. I’d give it a shot, but I’m not entirely sure.- In fact, I have no idea how to make it compatible with Mac and Linux. But still, you’d have to get confirmation from Deceth, don’t take my word for it.
October 24, 2011 at 11:59 am #2083DecethKeymaster@sandbag I have always run my Battle City Server on Linux using WINE. In all tests, this has always performed better than running the server directly on Windows (at least with the virtual dedicated servers offered with GoDaddy).
Like @faix mentioned, there is no version that will run directly on Linux at this time. I wish there were, this would be a more than welcome feature! As an open source game, compatibility with Linux would be very beneficial.
October 27, 2011 at 1:59 am #2084peepsParticipantHey i have an idea it would be cool if we all pitched in one dollar each month then we would need 30 people to throw down i dont know if thats a good idea or not. anywho nice to see u guys 😀
October 31, 2011 at 9:01 am #2085faixParticipantA good idea, but I don’t think we have 30 players active. And not everyone one of us can pitch in a dollar, though it seems a low price, a dollar means a lot to some people.
We can, however, host a server ourselves for everyone. Free of charge.
November 13, 2011 at 7:55 pm #2087remoteParticipantI’ll put one up at battlecity.net. It’s a classic version of the code (3.4.1).
November 19, 2011 at 2:46 am #2088faixParticipantGo Remote 😀 To bad we lost all of our ranks and such.
October 16, 2012 at 1:57 pm #2139FlashParticipantHow about http://www.hostwinds.com/ ? They start at $3.50, though I do not know if this is the right type of server that BC would need ?
