Hi everyone,
It’s that time again, an old player randomly has the urge to throw orbs down and rocks up a server for Battlecity. This time however, I’ve decided that we should really give it a shot.
I’ve identified three key tasks to accomplish.
1: Create a new Contact List, as the old one is no longer available (Deceth pending!), and add to it all interested players.
I can primarily handle this, I’m already working hard trawling all parts of the internet to find contact details for older players, and I’ve been sending out emails and private messages left right and centre.
2: Suggest, plan and develop tools/systems to A: Create more enjoyment when the number of players is 3, 2 or even 1. B: Introduce newer players to building actual cities, instead of random sprawled building placements.
I think this is the biggest thing at the moment. When there’s one player online, there is very little engagement to be gotten from the game. How do we solve this? What single-player focused solutions can we implement? Two player also isn’t much better, perhaps implement some sort of teleporting functionality to allow one vs one fights to be more engaging. Two versus one is practically the worst situation you can find yourself in at the moment. You effectively have zero chance of winning if the opponent’s mayor knows even the basics of the game. I have no suggestions for this yet, but I’m still thinking.
3: Advertise and promote! We can only rely on older dedicated players for so long. If we are going to get this really started, we’re going to need to create a source of new players.
I’m happy to shell out to help promote the game, though I’m inexperienced with that sort of thing. Maybe Deceth has some ideas/recommendations?

Skype, AIM, whatever, I’ll download it specifically to get in touch if I have to, I just want to build a new pool of players, and then once we’ve reached that I can start organising game-days. Hopefully people will start to get interested again and start practicing in between these days, and then we’re off!
Today, for the first time in 18 or 19 years, I orbed a city. There was only one person on, Neverspace, and he was AFK at the time, but it was awesome. The fact that you guys have a fully functioning and stable client and server is awesome!
I dug up my old website and had two contact pages where people could post info, so here is a contact list for you. A lot of people are missing, but here it is. Also, the second half is ICQ numbers, does anyone even still use it? Worth a shot I guess if someone wants to try to contact everyone.
