After the BCL’s second game had concluded, I decided to use the fact that there was a lot of people to try out my Hold the Base event for the first time since BCC has been released.
While my idea to capitalize on many people on the battlefield didn’t work, enough people showed up to make it worth it anyways.
For those that don’t know what a HtB event is, here’s a quick sumup: each team starts in an empty city near the base. The base is in fact a cc surrounded by plenty of buildings and defence. The goal is to have your orb sit on the base’s cc for 30 seconds in a row. First team to achieve that wins. In order to win, a team can resort to any kind of tactic they so wish.
To set up the event and make sure it went well, I got help from Iggy, Rise and Wdouglas.
First game lineups
Corrientes: Gangster, Billiam, Cseow and Solomon
Rio Cuarto: Asian, Stig, Clientel and Lefault
Cambridge: Iggy, ~Warlord~, Patter and Surge
Recap
First game started with Corr and Rio going at it. While Corr decided to build a regular city, Rio built up to the base. Everyone were slowly making their way through the base’s layers of defence except for one person: Billiam. He decided to go attack Rio instead and since there was barely any defence there, easily orbed them. At that point, Cambridge was open to make room for more people to participate. While both Cambridge and Rio were busy rebuilding, Corr could use that time to get closer to the base’s cc. They indeed did so, but decided very soon to go attack Cambridge instead. Turned out Rio had had the same idea and they ended up doubling poor small Cam. with everyone suiciding to bomb the factories, Billiam once again only had to walk on the cc and got the orb.
After that, people really started focusing on the base more, probably because they were beginning to feel the cc close. Rio were the first ones to make significant progress. Going from the north, they were able to bomb and shoot their way to the cc, even opening it up with bombs. Problem was there was still a good deal of plasmas surrounding the cc and they all died. Billiam tried to take the opportunity to make a rush for it but got killed 1 tile away from cc. Rio decided (although not unanimously from what I gathered after the game 😉 ) it was best to shoot the remaining plasmas before rushing for cc. At that point Cam was still south and kept digging as fast as they could to try to reach the cc first. Rio had the upperhand at that point and could of won, all there was left to do was to stay alive it seemed. Unfortunetaly, they didn’t and Billiam was able to rush the cc through the few turrets Rio hadn’t shot. He might of died on the cc but not before dropping the orb. With Rio having just died themselves and Cambridge still south, no one was able to shoot the orb and Corr won. They got to orb the admin inn for 150 pts as a result.
Second game lineups

Corrientes: Iggy, ~Warlord~, Solomon and Surge
Cambridge: Clientel
Recap
I had to do something else at the same time so I didn’t get to see all the match. Still, here is what I saw:
This time, the base was much bigger and with a lot more defence. Teams started more conservatively from what I saw with each team building a classical style city. After some time had passed with both teams slowly making their way through the base, Rio was somehow able to orb Corrientes. After that, they even blocked off the cc, preventing them from rejoining. They might of orbed them another time too, I couldn’t say. By the time I realised it and fixed it, some players had given up it seems. In the mean time, Rio also orbed Clientel in Cambridge. Iggy then joined Cambridge with Clientel. At that point however, Rio had things well under control and were closing in fast on the cc. With Iggy and Clientel stricly focusing on the south, Rio was able to open up the way from the north, shoot the walls and drop the orb. At that point Iggy finally realised what was going on (or finally decided to follow the admin’s advice to go north 😉 ) but it was too little too late as Rio did a good job of sealing off the cc to protect the orb. Again, Rio got to orb a 150pt admin inn.
Congratulations to the winners and a big thanks to everyone who participated. Hope you all had fun and I hope this event can be done soon!
