Discuss this Gauntlet in the Forums
Another huge gauntlet was built this Sunday with wdouglas doing about 60% of the work. I let him go crazy on the south side, and he made it into a beast. He placed 600+ turrets which made up half the gauntlet. The gauntlet itself had 3 starting cities, each of which had to go through 140 plasma turrets before reaching the middle command center.
Lahij made the fastest progress to the middle, but they couldn't shoot all the turrets in the middle without the help of the other 2 cities.
Once the three teams finally met up, rather than working together, they decided to go to war and began killing eachother. They noticed this prevented them from making any real progress and made them have to constantly drive a long way, so they eventually stopped. They still killed each other from time to time, but they at least made the effort to make it look like an accident… 🙂
After the middle point, Benguala found the quickest route to the command center while annaba and Lahij announced a new declaration of war and bega killing eachother again! I tried to help Annaba out by telling them they were on the longer path, but Sanders said he would rather have fun, than watching someone else shoot turrets. Wise words we all should follow(seriously).
Eventually Sanders cleared the longer way while the other teams were clearing the command center. After 2 hours of the gauntlet, Clientel rushed the cc for the orb. Benguela recieved 500 points. This past weekend BattleCity was moved to a new server. ReMoTe has tested these servers with some other projects of his with great results, so it was decided to move BattleCity as well. Also, many players had recently been having trouble with lag spikes, which could possibly have been related to connection issues with the other server due to its location.
For those who got to play on the new server, you likely noticed your ping was incredibly low. My ping was 61, instead of 150 🙂
However, since the move, there has been some issues with the server just stopping to accept connections, leaving people stuck at the login screen. This was due to the server reaching it's TCP limits. I'm not really sure how this would be possible yet, unless connections are not closed after players log-off, though in all honesty I'm not really sure what the company defines as TCP limits. Anyways, ReMoTe had the same problem on another server for a different game, at which point the limits were increased and the problem went away.
The limits were increased for the BattleCity server as well, but the same problem occurred again. ReMoTe has ordered a new server, so right now, the game is down until this new server is ready for him to setup. This should be done sometime today. BattleCity will be back up soon!
Please bare with us through these changes. While it is unfortunate to have downtime during the transition, the improvements it will bring once running will be well worth it.

A new version of BattleCity was released last night which includes a new updater, meaning you will need to re-download and install the game.

The update also includes a change which may or may not solve the lag spike problem that many players were experiencing. Please post in the Lag Issues Affecting BattleCity thread in the forums to let us know if the problem has been solved.
